I am a single founder of a startup based in the UK with a full time job  , so I don’t much money & time to develop the app , however i would like to work on this full time  .

This the first ever Indian wedding app on the market to combine the different types of ceremonies & rituals with the a budget planner & invitation section …

…. so it will go wrong. – FACT 

It would be easy if we were the 3rd or 4th on the market because,  we could take all the best bits & make it into an app  , but in my experience the first time you do something its always very risky and will go wrong but no risk no reward. But it didn’t stop Hilary , Armstrong (neil not lance!)  etc.  

This is only version 1.1. Very early stages for this kind of product & I am finding my feet in sales, marketing, finance, app development , advertising. Its a big learning circle. So this is very new to me. I see this as a 3 year project.

However, there’s a ton of photographers out there and they’re not all created equal. Here are my three essential tips to finding the perfect Indian photographer:

1. Ask friends, family and look online

The easiest way to find a great photographer is to think back to all the weddings you’ve been to and the photographer that was used. Is there one that you remember for the right reasons? If so, get in touch with the couple that got married!

Alternatively, just go ahead and ask your friends and family who they used and if they’d recommend them? But remember, their opinion may be a little biased so you need to do your own research too in addition to checking out the pictures that were taken.

The first place to get reviews is by running a quick Google search. The photographer’s name followed by the word ‘review’ is enough. You should also take a good look at their Facebook Page if they have one. As customers often post queries on Facebook pages, it’s helpful to see how they handled things.

In addition to getting referrals through your personal network, try and find a hidden gem online.

Most photographers have a website so searching for something like ‘Indian Wedding Photographer’ followed by your area should pull up relevant results. Another useful resource is Asian Capture. The site is a directory of Asian wedding photographers in the UK that allows you to filter by price and location.

By now, you should have a list of photographers that you’re interested in. Go ahead and make an appointment with those you’ve selected. The next step is to pin down that one photographer that will work perfectly for you.

2. Whittle down your list

Go to see all of the photographers you shortlisted and let them sell themselves. You’re making a big investment so they need to prove that they’re worth it.

They’ve made this shortlist so it’s clear that you like their style – now, the most important things to pay attention to are the prices and package and whether or not you actually like the photographer.

I can’t emphasize the last point enough. Although the photographer might be ticking all of the standard boxes, if you don’t like them as a person it’s going to come through in the shots. I’ve come across pushy and even rude photographers that bring an aura that clashes with the bride and grooms. Make sure that’s not the case with you.

And in typical Indian fashion, go ahead and negotiate on the price – the photographers expect it!

After visiting all of your shortlisted photographers, you need to select one. Take you time and don’t be rushed into a decision.

Once you’ve decided, pay the deposit. And if you’re having a pre-shoot, this will give you an even greater evaluation period and in which case you should move onto point 3.

3. Use the pre-shoot to further evaluate the photographer

Many couples do a pre-shoot before the actual wedding and these pictures are often used on the big screens, which is great! Another advantage is it gives you a live opportunity to test out the photographer.

I’ve seen cases in the past where the couple have got a bad vibe from the photographer during the pre-shoot but have still decided to go ahead with them on the big day. Reasons are “It’s too much hassle to change”, “I’ve already paid the deposit” or just feeling obliged.

My advice is if the photographer doesn’t live up to your expectations during the pre-shoot, cut your losses – and those losses should be minimal if you’ve just paid a deposit. Furthermore, they should still let you keep the pictures.

When all is said and done, you don’t want your pictures looking like this!
